At present I am working on updating my Felt site.
Hello - my second name is Mary, hence the Mary in Sweet Mary. The Sweet is because of my love of all sweet things from cakes to sweet smelling lavender! I grew up in New Zealand, in a very creative household and that creative influence came mainly from my mum who taught me to sew. She tells me that I stood up at her old treadle machine at age five to make my own dolly clothes and certainly I have enjoyed making things all my life. I am at my happiest pottering in my sewing room or what I call my playroom.
Besides making all the curtains, furniture covers and alot of our clothes, my mum picked up a paintbrush in her fifties and started to paint the most amazing pictures. My favourites are the flowey ones dotted around my home - what an inspiration she is. So, though I don't paint, I do love to make treasures from my "flowery fabric" collection - some of them truly vintage and some new but vintage looking and all of them collected in New Zealand and while I lived for over ten years in the United Kingdom.
I now live in a rambling, sort of shabby home on a rural property in the Hawkes Bay, surrounded by orchards and vineyards, flowers and large trees and most of all - space to breathe, think and create.
I am happily married with two beloved children, now at university. We also have two cats - one old and grumpy and one young and called the "spoilt brat" by my envious children.
